The President recently made a strategic move to visit Tampa, aiming to set himself apart from his potential Republican challenger, the former President Donald Trump. With Trump tied up in a New York courtroom due to a felony trial, Biden saw an opportunity to venture into deep red territory and campaign in Florida.
Biden’s journey took him to Tampa, where he aimed his political arsenal at the state’s new law banning abortions after the first six weeks of pregnancy. This is a contentious issue that has divided the nation and Biden didn’t shy away from it.
Adding fuel to the fire is a proposed amendment on the November ballot that could extend this ban to 24 weeks. Governor Ron DeSantis has labeled this amendment as ‘radical,’ primarily due its potential implications for overriding parental consent laws.
Recent polling data from Emerson College suggests that 40% of voters are planning to vote yes on the abortion amendment. However, achieving the 60% support needed for it to pass remains uncertain.
But what really stirred up controversy was Biden’s actions during the Tampa rally. His behavior left Catholics fuming.
While standing with a woman introducing him, who was criticizing DeSantis for supporting the six-week ban bill, Biden made the sign of the cross. This gesture did not sit well with many.
“Biden’s decision to make the Sign of the Cross in support of abortion extremism is a despicable charade that attempts to co-opt a sacred practice in support of his new abortion religion. His gesture openly mocks the Christian belief in the sanctity of life. There is no divine support for destroying the lives of innocent children, and he should know better. Biden’s gesture suggests he is either terribly naive, or senile, or callously indifferent to the foundational beliefs of millions of Christians in America,” Brian Burch, President of Catholic Vote, expressed his outrage.
While in Tampa, Biden also made a controversial comment about the Bible.
