Goff, speaking at Chatham House in London, used this as an opportunity to mock Trump. He referenced a famous Winston Churchill quote from 1938, comparing Trump’s desire for peace in Ukraine to British appeasement of Adolf Hitler. In other words, he suggested that Trump was too ignorant to understand history.

Within hours of his remarks, New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Winston Peters had Goff fired from his post. And the best part? Peters didn’t even bother consulting New Zealand’s Prime Minister before doing it—because he knew the backlash from Trump supporters worldwide would be enormous.
Peters stated:
“When you are in that position, you represent the government and the policies of the day. You’re not able to free-think, you are the face of New Zealand.”
