After just two months in Washington, Elon Musk is still picking his jaw up off the floor over how spectacularly incompetent and wasteful the federal government can be. And honestly, who can blame him? The guy built rockets and electric cars on a fraction of the budget the feds blow on paperclips and diversity consultants. Now, as head of DOGE — the Department of Government Efficiency — Musk is pulling back the curtain on just how deeply the Biden-Harris administration let this circus run wild.
In a Thursday night Fox News interview alongside seven of his top DOGE deputies, Musk laid out one of the latest jaw-dropping examples: a simple, 10-question online survey about U.S. National Parks. You’d think a task like that would run a few thousand bucks. Maybe toss in a National Geographic photo or two for flair. But under Biden’s team? That little project was billed at nearly a billion dollars. Yes, with a “b.” For a survey. On National Parks.
NEW: Elon Musk says the federal government spent $1 Billion on a survey that would have cost $10,000 on SurveyMonkey.
Bret Baier: What’s the most astonishing thing you’ve found out in this process?

As Musk put it bluntly: “We routinely encounter wastes of a billion dollars or more. Casually.” That’s government efficiency under Democrats — casually lighting money on fire like it’s Monopoly cash.
The kicker? The survey didn’t even do anything. No action plan. No follow-up. Just a fancy “Do you like trees?” questionnaire that disappeared into a black hole of bureaucracy. Musk said it could’ve been done for $10,000 on Survey Monkey. But instead, Biden’s cronies greenlit a contractor charging 1/3 of the National Park Service’s annual budget. And we’re supposed to believe these people care about “climate” or “the deficit”? Give me a break.
DOGE, under Musk’s leadership and President Trump’s America First mandate, is now on track to cut $1 trillion in waste in its first year. One trillion. And they’re just getting warmed up. Gone are the days of no-bid contracts for shell companies tied to Democrat political losers like Stacey Abrams. Her fake nonprofit just lost a $2 billion EPA grant. Poof.
USAID? Gutted. Turns out most Americans don’t want their tax dollars funding “gender equity” seminars in Guatemala. HHS and the Department of Education? Getting downsized to what they should’ve always been — lean, focused, and under control.
So while Democrats clutch their pearls about Elon Musk being “too powerful,” the rest of us are just glad someone finally showed up in D.C. with a calculator and a backbone.
