The confirmation process was a brutal, drawn-out fight, but in the end, Vice President J.D. Vance cast the tie-breaking vote to get it done, making Hegseth the 29th Secretary of Defense. The moment was met with cheers from Senate Republicans, while Democrats sat there looking like they just swallowed a lemon.
Let’s be honest—this confirmation battle was never really about Hegseth’s qualifications. The man is a decorated combat veteran with multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan under his belt. He’s seen the realities of war up close, something the usual Washington bureaucrats could never understand. But instead of focusing on his experience and vision for rebuilding the military, Democrats (and a few backstabbing Republicans) went all-in on a smear campaign packed with flimsy allegations and outright fabrications.

Then there was the laughable NBC News report claiming Hegseth had a “drinking problem” during his time at Fox News. Anonymous sources (of course) painted him as an out-of-control drunk who created a hostile work environment. Funny thing—dozens of Fox News employees, the people who actually worked with Hegseth, have dismissed the report as “utter bull**it.” But that didn’t stop Democrats from using it as ammo in their confirmation hearing sideshow.
In his opening statement, Hegseth didn’t hold back, calling the attacks exactly what they were: a smear campaign. He pointed out that the left-wing media and their allies in Congress are terrified of an America First defense policy that prioritizes strength and preparedness over woke nonsense. And he’s absolutely right.
The usual suspects—Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, and, surprisingly, Mitch McConnell—jumped ship and voted with the Democrats, citing “concerns” over the allegations and Hegseth’s lack of bureaucratic experience. Because apparently, multiple combat tours don’t count as relevant experience in their eyes. Typical.
But despite the obstacles, Hegseth is now at the helm of the Defense Department. Expect him to bring the focus back to what actually matters: protecting America, supporting the troops, and undoing the damage inflicted by the Biden administration’s failed leadership.
