Stallone Ditches Liberal California for Good!

It’s no secret that California, once the golden dream for many, is losing its shine. High-profile Californians like Sylvester Stallone are packing up and heading to Florida, a state known for its lower taxes, sound fiscal policies, and conservative governance.

Just yesterday, Hollywood icon Sylvester Stallone and his wife of nearly 27 years, Jennifer Flavin Stallone, announced on their show “The Family Stallone” Season 2 premiere that they’re bidding farewell to California and setting up home in sunny Florida. This news came as a surprise to their three daughters — Scarlet, Sistine and Sophia — but it’s part of a larger trend we’re seeing.

One of Stallone’s daughters was taken aback by the news. She asked if her dad was joking about this move to Florida. But Stallone confirmed it wasn’t a prank at all.

Their decision could be linked to their transition into empty nesters. Their eldest daughters, Sophia and Sistine are living together in New York City while their youngest daughter Scarlet is studying at the University of Miami.

Jennifer Flavin Stallone shared her feelings about the move: “My heart ached looking at the memories of our daughters in California, who are now far away. Sly and I decided some change was in order for us.”

The Stallones aren’t alone in this migration. Esteemed economist Gay Cororaton revealed that in 2022 alone, Florida welcomed 50,701 Californians making it the second-largest out-of-state attractor after New York and New Jersey. Even though 28,557 Floridians moved to California during the same period, Florida still had a net gain of 22,144 people.

The reasons behind this shift vary from favorable tax structures, conservative socio-political views to different crime and immigration policies. Many criticize California’s liberal approach, including its high taxes, as less appealing.

While Stallone hasn’t publicly stated his reasons for moving, it’s likely that he was drawn to Florida for the same reasons as many other high earners: tax benefits, political climate or simply a change of scenery.

This trend of people like Stallone moving to states that better align with their financial and political beliefs is indicative of a national shift. It shows how state policies can impact quality of life and influence where people choose to live.

Is this the main reason for the Stallones’ move? It’s hard to say for sure. But one thing is clear: this trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Whatever the reason, this migration wave has sparked a nationwide conversation. After all, home is where you feel most aligned with your values and principles, right?
